A Place is Prepared

“My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”
John 14:2-3 New International Version

Our family is in the middle of a change. We moved. Well, actually, we are smack-dab in the middle of relocating as I type. If you’ve undergone big changes recently — a new community, job, school or otherwise — you know there are often a range of feelings involved. A mix of excitement and nervous energy seems the constant. You are walking away from the familiar, treading the middle ground in a holding pattern, before taking a semi-blind leap of faith into new waters.

We are currently living that in-between life; waiting for the new home to be prepared. (Luckily, we have many family members hosting us as we wait.) It reminds me of our earthly house and the road to our heavenly home. God gives us a life on earth with a singular mission: to share and show God’s love along the way. We were created so beautifully and so wonderfully by a Creator who knows every hair on our heads. He knows our thoughts, our desires, our victories and failures. He loves us completely, with the kind of love that heals, surpasses and conquers all. What’s even more, He has prepared a place for us — in a perfectly-crafted forever home. What a gloriously-impeccable image.

As we know, there are times in the middle of this road home, when setbacks seem insurmountable. We may never understand why they happen — the tragedies and trials of this life. But we do know that He has a plan for those who love and call on Him. What He calls you to, He equips you for. God will use our testimonies to bring others closer. May we continue to lean on His perfect love and steadfastness as we sojourn this side of heaven, to our forever home.
