“He who forms the mountains, who creates the wind, and who reveals his thoughts to mankind, who turns dawn to darkness, and treads on the heights of the earth – the Lord God Almighty is his name.”
Amos 4:13 NIV

I’ve spent the majority of my life surrounded by mountains. I’ve hiked up 14ers and climbed rock faces. I wander paths cut around the mountain sides that surround my current home. When I reach the top of a summit, it is a moment of awe and astonishment. I often feel so inconsequential looking into great distances of varying form and shape and color. It is a humbling experience in all the best ways possible.

To think that God formed these breathtaking mountains. That He created the rocks and evergreens and mountain streams. It is hard to fathom a being so large, that the very mountains are nothing but a pebble in comparison.

The wind that brings coolness on a hot day. The wind that sends fires blazing and storms brewing. The sheer power of wind is unfathomable at times. The Lord Almighty has the winds in His very grasp.

‘“What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”’
Matthew 8:27 NIV

God is behind the very rising and setting of the sun. The sun keeps us from freezing, develops weather patterns, and gives energy to the plants that provide us with food and oxygen. The sun is powerful, and yet it surrenders to the Lord Almighty. The sun answers to the God of the Universe.

The Lord Almighty is the Creator and Sustainer of all. And He knows each of us by name. He loves each and every one of us. He has called us and adopted us into his very family. He endlessly pursues us. The Lord God Almighty is His name.
