The Maker’s Mark

The mark of Christ makes us valuable forever.

When we buy an item at a thrift store or inherit an object, we often look for a maker’s mark to tell us who made the item, its origin and perhaps its age. These pieces of information may tell us how valuable that item is. If you’ve ever watched the PBS program Antiques Roadshow you’ve seen people bring their possessions to be evaluated by experts for worthiness or to learn of their history. Usually, it ends up having more sentimental value than monetary worth, but occasionally someone discovers they have a rare, extraordinary treasure that they were clueless about.

“For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lose their value. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God.”
1 Peter 1:18-19 New Living Translation

Because of sin, we were doomed to be condemned for all eternity. Even our good deeds are worthless and can’t impart value. But God loved us so much that He sent His Son, Jesus, to die for our sins. On this earth Christ’s life was valued at 30 pieces of silver, but we have been bought for a price so great, His blood of salvation now engraved on our hearts, that proclaims we are forever God’s precious children. Praise Christ for His great sacrifice! Everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus as our Lord and Savior.
