The Proper Time to Harvest

Do Not Become Weary…

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
Galatians 6:9

Plowing, cultivating, planting, fertilizing, spraying, and irrigating…the work never seems to end as the farmer aims toward the harvest, but for the diligent worker, the one who does not grow weary and give up, the harvest will come.

What is true in farming is true in the cultivation of souls. There is great joy in seeing the sinner come to Jesus, and the lost being found. However, sometimes you and I are tempted to grow weary in the daily work of doing good, and bringing the Good News of Jesus to others. The prayers, the conversations, the pleading, and the instruction…it all seems to never cease.

However, for those who do not grow weary, who continue to depend on the work of the Holy Spirit in the Word of God, there will be a harvest. This harvest happens even though we can not often see the progress of the Holy Spirit in the human heart. This harvest happens even though we feel feeble, and insufficient in our work. This harvest happens because this is God’s work, which we are privileged to share, and it is God’s harvest when it comes.

Do not cease your prayers, and your humble requests, for those who do not yet know Jesus. He despises no one, and it is often the one who seems most distant, and lost, from God that the Good Shepherd has the greatest pleasure in bringing to Himself.

Turn to God’s Word, and promises. Turn to God’s strength in your weakness, and discouragement. He will bring the harvest of souls, and it will be glorious! Do not give up hope! Our hope is in God!
