The Right Time

God’s Timing Is Perfect

“We may throw the dice, but the LORD determines how they fall.”
Proverbs 16:33 New Living Translation

I believe in the truth of this proverb and I practice this truth whenever I make the schedule for the Praying With The Eyes devotions. I assign each writer a number, pray, then randomly chose who will write a devotion on what day of the week. There are readers of these blogs who need to read or hear what that devotional writer has to say for that specific day.

God controls the outcome, not me.

What also intrigues me is how that day has significance for the writer of the blog. Such is the case for me today. Today is the 30th birthday of my youngest son, Michael. I couldn’t pass up sharing a picture of him shortly after his birth. His due date was actually a week later, on Christmas Day (great timing for a pastor, right?).

However, Michael didn’t want to miss the party. In fact, Michael never wants to miss a celebration. It’s a gift. He wanted to celebrate his first Christmas with the rest of us.

He was born at the right time.

“But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children.”
Galatians 4:4-5 New Living Translation

As we prepare to celebrate Jesus’ birth a week from today, we contemplate God’s timing. Paul writes that God’s timing was perfect. There has never been nor will there ever be a better time for God to empty heaven of his Son than when Jesus was born. We will never fully understand God’s timing, but his timing is perfect.

Not only is God’s timing perfect in sending Jesus to dwell with you, his timing is perfect in your life. It may not feel that way and it doesn’t have to, but his timing is best. The proof is in the baby.

  1. What a wonderful reminder, Pastor! I needed to hear that today. Patience & trust to know that God is working out whatever it is. Blessings & happy birthday to your son!
