Relaxing in God’s Grace

Our image for consideration today was a picture I took while lying in a hammock and peering into the blue, blue sky. It was great to drift into slumber while watching clouds swirl and move about. The warmth of the sun and the lapping of the waves combined with a gentle breeze made this moment fantastic. I hope this introduction has made you slightly more relaxed!

I must admit however, my life has been anything BUT relaxing lately. It has been a strange and stressful time and sometimes I wonder when or if things will get better. When will there be relief? Perhaps you can relate to that sentiment.

But as the title suggests, I believe that things are looking up: Not because there is a change in my current circumstance, but because I approach life’s problems with the knowledge that God is with me amid struggle.

Isaiah 41:10 reminds us,

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” English Standard Version

That verse is one of my favorites because I know that I am not alone even when things are tough.

Isn’t it interesting that if you went through all the photos in your phone (or photo album at home!) that all the images are of happy times, celebrations and other positive moments? No one snaps pictures of negative or tough times! And yet, when we pray with the eyes, we see it all: the good, the bad and everything in-between. Be comforted in knowing that God Himself also sees this and walks right beside us no matter what.

If you are struggling, I invite you to lean into these disciplines that I believe will help:
Bring your struggles to God in prayer. Remain in God’s Word. Receive the gifts Christ gives.
Remember your identity in Christ. Lean on the Christian community. While all of these are important and powerful in their own right, they are not easy to do each and every day.

I pray that today you know that God is with you amid the good, the bad and everything in-between! His love for you is certain and sure, as is His provision and protection. I hope that you do find those moments of relaxation, like the picture for today, to remind you that God has created you to enjoy a life fulfilled in Him!
