“I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.”
John 4:35b New International Version
The time for harvest in the Willamette Valley is upon us! Combines run all day long, dust fills the air, and trucks are filled with grass seed. When it is time to harvest, everyone works together to bring in the crop. This is the payoff that farmers have been waiting for!
Jesus tells us that there is another harvest going on that is even more crucial than the farmer’s crop. He has just led a Samaritan woman to believe in Him as the Messiah and he tells his disciples that there are many more just waiting to believe in Him. And those disciples are to be the harvesters of souls for eternity.
And so it is today. Around you are many who are ready to believe in the Lord Jesus as Savior. They are ripe for harvest, ready to be gathered into the kingdom of God. Are you willing to be a harvester, a laborer in the harvest? It is God’s Word and Spirit that open people’s hearts to the Good News of Jesus, that bring them to a place where they will receive Him.
Will you help gather them in?
The time is short and the workers are few. There are many to reach and only a short time to do it. But the Lord Jesus has promised that His Spirit will be with us and give us words to say and the right timing to say them. And the Good News of Jesus brings many to believe that you and I would never have thought possible.
Open your eyes! Look at the fields ripe for harvest! And pray for laborers in that great harvest of souls! Amen!
