Two Truths and a Lie

by Desiree Bustamante

God’s truth always overpowers Satan’s lies.

“Satan has always hated the truth because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
John 8:44b New Living Translation

Two Truths and a Lie is an icebreaker game where each person introduces themselves to their group by stating two truths and one lie about themselves. Everyone else tries to decide which is the lie out of the three given statements. One goal of the game is to trick your group into choosing obscure truths that seem fake or a lie that sounds believable.  The lie can be outrageous and wacky, or it can sound like a truth to make it harder for the other participants.

Satan plays this game with us all the time.  But, as the father of lies, he is very good at this game and will always tell lies that sound so convincing that we think it is the truth. Satan’s lie often consists of three words—you are not.

  • You are not living a perfect Christian life.
  • You are not worthy.
  • You are not wealthy or powerful enough.
  • You are not talented, skilled or smart enough.
  • You are not loved by your Heavenly Father.

Jesus is Truth. He tells you the truth every time.  His main two truths:

  • He loves you more than anything in the world.
  • In Christ we are so much more than anything Satan tells us, for we are Christ’s children and heirs to His kingdom.

Never listen to the “you are nots” that Satan may whisper or sometimes even shout to you.  They are evil lies of a being that knows he has lost the victory to Jesus. Only listen to the truth of Christ through His word and His still, small voice as you spend life-giving times of solitude with Him.
