“Abram believed the Lord, and He credited it to him as righteousness.”
Genesis 15:6 New International Version
Does the whole world feel like its up in the air right now? Like anything can happen? That you have no solid footing? That you have no one to trust?
Abram often felt alone in a strange land where God had sent him. He often felt surrounded by enemies and unsure whom he could trust. But Abram knew One whom he could trust, One whose word was trustworthy.
“Abram believed the Lord…” Abram trusted God’s promises to him. God had told him to go and so he went. God told him that he would be blessed with heirs and Abram believed it, even in the midst of childlessness. God said through Abram all nations would be blessed and Abram believed it, even as he grew older and older and all hope seemed to evaporate.
“… and God credited it to him as righteousness.” Because Abram trusted God, God strengthened his faith and Abram gave glory to God…. and God kept His promises… and Isaac was born.
Even in the midst of a world “up in the air”, for all those who believe that Jesus Christ died for our sins and rose from the dead, we are made sons and daughters of God. God declares us righteous, that is right with Him, not because of our goodness, but because of faith in His promises. When all else seemed up in the air, Abram believed God. When our whole world seems up in the air, we believe God.
And the Lord will give you a solid footing, faith in Him, even in the midst of a world that is up in the air. Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of our faith, a solid place in a shifting world.
