Jesus will return in glory!

“And when (Jesus) had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.””
Acts 1:9-11 English Standard Verion (ESV)
My husband and I frequently attend concerts performed by the Colorado Springs Philharmonic at the Pikes Peak Center. There is usually a pre-concert lecture, an hour before the performance, where concert-goers can ask the maestro, or the guest artist, questions about the nuances of the music they’re about to hear.
After the lecture, the orchestra gradually files onto the stage. They warm up their instruments, review the music, and replay parts of their score. Finally, the conductor takes the stage and wonderful music fills the theatre.
It’s an enriching and memorable event. We know what is going to happen, and in what order.
The return of Jesus Christ is not as clearly timed.
The child in this photo knows that a grand event is about to begin, but he may not know the exact time. Yet, he waits patiently, and watches for signs that the concert is happening soon.
Last week was Christ the King Sunday, the last Sunday of the church year. We read in God’s word about Jesus Christ’s return in glory. It will be a grand event, indeed! However, we don’t know exactly when He will return.
So we wait. We watch for signs. We pray.
“Behold, I am coming soon … I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”
Revelation 22:12-13 ESV
One thing is certain. Jesus will return! Amen!
