“The Lord will guide you continually,
giving you water when you are dry
and restoring your strength.
You will be like a well-watered garden,
like an ever-flowing spring.”
Isaiah 58:11 New Living Translation

Water is precious. If you’ve ever lived in a time of drought as many parts of the world are experiencing now, you know the value of water. Without it, wildfires, crop failures and dust storms run rampant. In many countries, people must walk for miles each day to obtain water, which often isn’t clean and can cause illness.

When a water source is located and a well is built, villages join in great celebration of clean, readily accessible water. The changes pure water brings to a community are profound, leading to improved nourishment and health.

Our souls experience seasons of drought, often during hard and difficult times. We feel like a sun scorched desert, in desperate need of a drink of comfort and strength for our weary bones.

God sees this need in our life and He promises to restore us to strength when ours is depleted and we feel dried up and useless. God brings water of His Word to refresh and hydrate us. Then He brings His Spirit to protect us from the heat and dryness until the season changes. God’s never-failing faithfulness provides hope for dried up hearts.

During a drought we notice the difference between gardens that have been irrigated and those drying up. Christ promises to make us like a watered garden. His words water us so deeply that we are not only revived, but able to produce fruit in abundance for His glory. A well-watered garden brings life and fruitfulness. The living water that flows out of us will bring life to those around us.

When your soul experiences drought, run to Christ, the only source of living water to satisfy your thirsty soul.
