Rock or Sand?
“And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house upon the sand.”
Matthew 7:26 English Standard Version
Building sand castles is great fun! And as you can see from the picture, knocking them down is even more fun! Sand castles are like that; easily built and easily destroyed.
In your life, what is your foundation? What is it that you can rely on in times of trouble or temptation or grief or doubt? Is it rock or is it sand?
Jesus tells us that if you do not listen to his words you have built your house upon the sand. And when the rains come, your house, that is your life, will be destroyed. But if you build your house upon the rock, when the storms come, your house will stand firm.
What is the foundation of your life? Is it your possessions or your reputation or your health or your good looks? Is it your skills or your talents or your money or your children? What are you relying on in your life for purpose and security and meaning?
Or is your foundation Jesus? Is your life built upon his love and his presence in your life? Are your thoughts and desires and actions and words centered upon him? Is he the one you rely on in daily struggles and fears and hurts and suffering?
Trust in Jesus for your foundation. He has redeemed you with his own precious blood. He has reconciled you to God and made you his son or daughter. He rose to give you eternal life. He offers you his peace, his rest, his strength, his forgiveness. He has prepared a place for you in heaven.
Jesus is our Rock, our Foundation, our Strength, and our Salvation. Trust in him!
