Where’s the Band?

Singing with the Angels

Life might feel pretty empty right now. We’ve reached July in this never-ending pandemic and in a couple of days, we in the United States will celebrate our independence. However, on this Fourth of July, this stage won’t be surrounded by crowds. It won’t have a band playing patriotic music. It won’t be framed by fireworks.

What’s happened to our world, our nation, our city? Where’s the band?

Then I looked again, and I heard the voices of thousands and millions of angels around the throne and of the living beings and the elders. And they sang in a mighty chorus: “Worthy is the Lamb who was slaughtered– to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing.”
Revelation 5:11-12 New Living Translation

Heaven’s chorus never ends.

We might not hear the music. We might not see the angel chorus, but it’s there. As this crazy world spins one day into another, as night turns into day and day turns into night, the angels sing. As we sit in our living rooms wondering what the next proclamation will be that changes our world, as we wonder if there is such a thing as normal, the angels’ unrelenting song of praise continues.

Maybe it’s time for us to join the angels.

Sing a new song to the LORD! Let the whole earth sing to the LORD!
Psalm 96:1 NLT

Whether the band plays or the stage remains empty, our God remains the same. He is still the God who forgives. He is still the God who pours out faith, hope and love.

The cross of Jesus is still the same cross.

Maybe next year people will gather, the band will play, and fireworks will fill our skies, but let’s not wait until then to sing with the angels to the One who gave everything for us. The heavenly band of angels will always be there.
