PWTE Podcast Episode 035: Parenting Teens and Young Adults in the 2000’s

20160916_153551Guest host, Jennifer Brukiewa, joins Richelle Hecker in this episode of the Praying With The Eyes podcast. Both Jennifer and Richelle are parents of teenagers and in this podcast they wrestle with parenting teens and young adults in a technological and increasingly secular society. How can parents communicate the Christian faith to their children in today’s world? Is there hope for Christian parents?

God’s Life-Giving Path

Jesus is the path that gives us life.

“You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”
Psalm 16:11 English Standard Version

You don’t see many bushwhacking bicyclists. It’s hard enough to hike through underbrush without any path leading the way, but imagine trying to ride a bike through branches and bushes, and over rocks and logs you cannot see.

Whether you’re riding a bike through a city or down a mountain, it’s best to have a path that guides your way.

The psalmist declares that God is in the business of revealing his path for our lives to follow.

Some of us might believe that God is going to reveal to us every aspect of our lives. It would be nice to know where we’re supposed to live, what job will best use our gifts, and whether we should buy a lottery ticket or not (okay, so maybe not a lottery ticket).

But is that what the psalmist means? Is God supposed to reveal to us the little details of life? Would knowing those details make our lives better?

Maybe the problem is that we don’t understand what is meant by God’s “path of life.” Maybe the psalmist understood this path as the way that brought him life.

If that is the case, then we know that God has made known to us his path that brings life in Jesus Christ. Jesus is God’s life breathed into our broken, sin-filled lives. He is our life. He is God’s path that brings life.

If Jesus is our path of life, then it doesn’t matter where we live or what we do. We have life, and it is that life that inspires all that we do.

“How great is the Lord,
    how deserving of praise,
in the city of our God,
which sits on his holy mountain!

It is high and magnificent;
the whole earth rejoices to see it!”

When fall arrives the aspen are quaking castles of gold.
The beauty of the hills afar is awesome to behold!
The autumn harvest is bountiful—those who sow shall reap.
God’s great gifts are plentiful—our hand in His He keeps.
So enter into his gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise!
Then you shall know that the Lord is living in His glorious autumn days!

Enjoy the beauty of the autumn season, and thank and praise God, the Creator of it all!

“He has given me a new song to sing,
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see what he has done and be amazed.
They will put their trust in the Lord.

Oh, the joys of those who trust the Lord.”
Psalm 40:2-4 New Living Translation
