A Light Shines in the Darkness

by Desiree Bustamante

The light of Jesus pierces through all the darkness of this world.

The Word gave life to everything that was created,
and his life brought light to everyone.
The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness can never extinguish it.

The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him.

He came to his own people, and even they rejected him. But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.”
John 1:4-5, 9-12 New Living Translation

When Jesus came to bring life and light to the world, many didn’t believe He was the promised Messiah—including His own people. They expected someone who fit their plans, not God’s.

Life can feel heavy at times, and it’s easy to think the darkness around you is stronger than the light. But Jesus is the light of the world. Though He was rejected, He carried His cross to the grave and broke through the darkness of sin and death so you could have eternal life. Even when you can’t see the light, it’s still there—because Jesus never leaves you on your own.

Jesus brought salvation to a broken world—that includes you! His light can never be overcome, no matter how dark things feel. Because of His sacrifice, you are His beloved child.
