Music was created to glorify God and bless us.

“David and all Israel were celebrating before God with all their might, singing songs and playing all kinds of musical instruments—lyres, harps, tambourines, cymbals, and trumpets.”
1 Chronicles 13:8 New Living Translation

As David experienced, music helps us express our feelings and emotions. Music can also change the way we see the world. The idea that music can influence our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors may not be surprising. Research shows that listening to music can be an effective way to cope with stress, depression, anxiety and pain management. It can help you sleep better, eat less, and may improve memory.

The Bible reveals that music was used as an emotional expression of appreciation and thanks to God. When a significant event occurred, it was common for people to compose and sing songs to praise and thank God for His blessing.

The whole book of Psalms is filled with song, many bearing David’s name as the composer. The verses express a variety of moods and feelings of joy and sorrow, hope and fear, faith and doubt.

Even Jesus and the disciples sang a hymn at the conclusion of the Passover service before the night of His crucifixion.

Isn’t it great that God created music so that we could praise Him, while also aiding our minds and bodies? So, go ahead and sing to the Lord with all your heart when that song of praise runs through your head, or a song of sadness when you feel like crying to the Lord. It will certainly bless and heal your mind and soul.

“Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good; celebrate his lovely name with music.”
Psalm 135:3 New Living Translation
