Breathe Life into Me!

“I will put breath in you, and you will come to life.  Then you will know that I am the Lord.”
Ezekiel 37:6b

Imagine the first man made, by God, out of the dust of the earth. As he lay there, God breathed into him the breath of life, and Adam became a living being.

Now here we are, fallen descendants of that first man, dead in our sin, lifeless, cut off from the living God, and what does God do? He breathes into you, and me, the breath of life.

He does this in the most amazing way. He sent the second Adam, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (His only begotten Son), to die to erase the disobedience of Adam.  He rose again, that you and I might receive the Breath of Life.  The Holy Spirit, the Comforter, the Presence of God, was sent at Pentecost to breathe the Life of Jesus into a fallen, dead, and lifeless world.

For every one who believes in Him, into that person He breathes the Life of God. That means that even if I die, yet shall I live. Although I can not see the Spirit, I experience His work, His life-giving, and life-breathing work that takes you, and me, from death to life, from rebels to sons, and from those outside the kingdom to sons and daughters of the King.

Holy Spirit, breathe into me daily the Spirit of the Living God. Grant me faith in God’s promises in His life-giving Word. Enliven me to follow Jesus. Work salvation in me, give me hope, and life in a hopeless and dead world. Comfort me, O Holy Spirit, with Your presence and Your life-giving breath. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
