Caught By Surprise

Jesus’ return will be sudden!

Recently, we found ourselves in the path of a destructive blizzard. The day before, we had sunny skies and temperatures into the sixties. We were walking around in short sleeve shirts, without jackets. People here were thinking about spring, purchasing seeds, and preparing their gardens. Late that night and into the morning we experienced a light rain. People woke up and began their usual routines, heading to work and appointments.

By late morning, the rain turned to snow and winds were blowing. A lot of workers headed home around lunchtime, but by then it was too late. Over a thousand cars were stranded on the road, blocked by accidents ahead of them, slippery streets, and no visibility. Many more were stuck in places away from home.

The storm came suddenly, but not without warning. Although the weather forecasters began announcing it a week ahead of time, many were unprepared. Some believed it was coming but thought they had more time. Some didn’t believe because they had been warned before and nothing happened. Even those who were ready were shocked by the impact.

As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.”
Matthew 24: 37-39 New International Version

Jesus has told us He will return. He has told us what to expect when He does. In spite of the fact that we have warning, many are not ready. It has been so long since He said He’d return, many have stopped believing it. Others think they have more time. This blizzard is a reminder of how suddenly it will happen. We need to always be ready, and help our friends, family, neighbors and anyone we can to be ready as well.

Do not be complacent. Jesus is coming soon!
