Chosen

You are His

Even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will. Ephesians 1:4-6 ESV

“She changed her mind.” This is the phone call we received last week after a recent adoption match with a young birth mother. We went from an overwhelming and definite, “you’ve been chosen,” to an emptying and final, “she changed her mind.” After stabilizing our emotions and seeking comfort in prayer, we quickly realized this is exactly what the Lord planned. This strong and courageous teenager will soon become an even stronger mom. God knew all of this. I believe with all my heart He has been in pursuit of her — using this precious child and her experience with our agency to choose motherhood. That is beautiful. We couldn’t ask for anything more.

While we wait to be chosen again, God has provided healing and reassurance. We are God’s children. He chose us. We never have to worry or doubt if He loves us. We don’t have to be perfect or maintain a performance for fear that He might change His mind about us. He already knows us — from when He initiated our life to every hair on our heads. There’s no change of heart for Him. As our verse today attests, He chose us before the foundation of the world. He loved us so much that He sent His only son to die for us. We are robed in the righteousness of Jesus. We became His as adopted sons and daughters into a forever family.

The adoption process continues to humble me. No matter what season this post finds you in, I pray that you are reminded of your true identity. I pray that you seek Him with all your heart and find comfort in His reassuring Word. You were chosen. You are His. That is beautiful.

  1. I love this and it was very personal to me. As a grandmother of a now 24yr old grandson who was given to our daughter & son- in- law before birth and the precious gift not taken back I’m so thankful to our loving God! Thank you for this special message today! ❤️🙏🏻
