Cold Feet

Let your eyes look straight ahead;
    fix your gaze directly before you.
Give careful thought to the paths for your feet
    and be steadfast in all your ways.

Proverbs 4:25-26 New International Version

It snowed this past weekend, and our neighborhood was covered in a blanket of fresh powder. It looked like a postcard, except for the numerous trails left by rabbits as they ate the grass underneath. Our neighbor cat saw the rabbits and wanted to go outside. Her exit window was opened and she stepped out, but her ledge was covered in snow. It wasn’t long before she turned around and went back inside the house where she could warm her cold, wet paws.

Chasing rabbits would have to wait for another day.

The simple believe anything,
    but the prudent give thought to their steps.

Proverbs 14:15 New International Version

How often do our feet hit the floor running when we start our day? We think of something which requires our attention first thing in the morning – writing this devotion was mine – and we forget that God is with us from the moment we open our eyes.

God is always there for us, whether or not we start the day with him. He is still there when we come back to him to warm our cold, wet feet with his grace and his Word.

Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
John 15:4 New International Version

If you have promised that this is the year you want to intentionally start your day with God, but you’ve already run out into the snow without him, you can always start your day over with him. He will meet you wherever you are with an abundance of love and grace that is beyond measure. Time with God soon becomes the armor of God, equipping us for whatever the day has in store.
