Dread

Trusting God’s Will

“And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.””
Matthew 26:39, English Standard Version

When the two houses in the background of this picture were built, it was not a pleasant experience.  The builders made so much noise, and did it early in the morning and late at night, (which was against town noise ordinances).  Not even visits from police officers deterred them.  Now they are building two more homes and we are dreading a similar experience.

What do you dread?  In the grand scheme loud noises are nothing, when what I could be dreading could be so much worse.  Dread happens when we know something is coming and cannot stop it.  Jesus knew extreme dread when He prayed to His Father.  He asked Him to stop what had to happen, but in the end trusted His Father and accepted His will.

Because He did, we can trust that we will get through what we dread.  Jesus said:

“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace.  In the world you will have tribulation.  But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33, ESV

Let us pray for acceptance, peace, and trust in the things we dread.
