“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8 New International Version
This bundle of twigs looks like trash to some but in many countries, it is a precious commodity—fuel for a fire to keep warm or to cook a meal. It’s easier to keep a fire burning with the help of others to fan the flame, gather more wood and stoke the fire.
We are like kindling. We need God to set us afire with His Spirit so we can burn brightly in our communities. As Christians, our fire should blaze with love for our neighbors, ultimately pointing them to Christ.
Together as children of God we burn more intensely than we do alone. We can shine God’s grace and glory everywhere in our community, leading others to His light and the warmth of His love. As we all burn together some may want to extinguish our flame, but God will protect our fire of faith through the Holy Spirit who provides spiritual oxygen so it will never be smothered or turned to ashes.
Keep your fire burning in Christ! Even when your fire grows dim and threatens to be extinguished by discouragement or weariness, God will keep it alive. The sparks that fly from your fire of faith will ignite new fires and God’s Word will add fuel to keep them burning. God’s blaze of glory, grace and forgiveness for His children will never burn out!
