“Let them praise the Lord for his great love and for the wonderful things he has done for them.”
Psalm 107:8 New Living Translation

You are probably most familiar with the first verse of this Psalm:

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good!
    His faithful love endures forever.” Psalm 107:1 New Living Translation

Yet the rest of the Psalm tells of life-threatening situations that the Israelites found themselves in, and how the Lord met their need while they were exiled. Some were lost and homeless, some were starving and nearly died, others were imprisoned in iron chains. Some were caught in dreadful storms on the seas. There were those who rebelled against God and suffered for their sins. Yet when they cried out to the Lord in their distress, He heard them and rescued them. Then He blessed them with abundant water and food, a multitude of livestock and cities to live in with their families.

We who love the Lord should treasure these timeless stories in our hearts, for they remind us that no matter how desperate our days or situations seem, God promises to rescue us when we cry out to Him.  We are His beloved children, and He will always answer our prayers, for He loves us. And, once the Lord rescues us from any situation, sincere praise should flow freely from our hearts for all of His goodness toward us.

When trouble invades your life, remember the Lord’s faithful love and redemption He gave to Israel, for it is yours also, as He promised that His love and grace for you endures forever.

“Those who are wise will take all this to heart;
    they will see in our history the faithful love of the Lord.”
Psalm 107:43 New Living Translation
