“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Philippians 4:13 English Standard Version

Some friends came to see us recently at a cabin where we were staying on a lake.  There wasn’t much room to turn around and I was concerned whether Nick could maneuver safely in the small driveway.  As you can see, Nick was driving a pretty big truck.

Nick leaned out the window and drawled in his best imitation of a Texan accent, “Don’t worry, it’s a Silverado.”  When I tried to explain that he might hit one of the many trees, he looked me in the eye and with great mock seriousness, said, “Steve, it’s a Silverado.”  To him it was obvious that there would be no problems because he was driving “a Silverado”.

I am glad that Nick has a lot of confidence in his vehicle.  I am sure that he has a very fine truck. but when things are really not going well in my life, I need a lot more than “a Silverado”.  When everyone deserts me, when I feel the weight of my sin, when disaster threatens, when my life seems a failure, I need a lot more than a big rig.

The Apostle Paul says it well, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”  When life deals me disaster and the devil is on my tail, the Lord Jesus Christ is the One who strengthens me.  In Him I can do all things, I can continue to trust in God in the midst of all crises and pain and grief.

Where is your confidence?  I urge you to trust no other than the Lord and Savior of our lives.  In Jesus we find strength to do all things.  In Jesus is our confidence and strength and solace and comfort and peace.  “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!”
