With 2020 in the rearview mirror, it’s easy to think how good 2021 will be. But will it? Or will there continue to be disappointments, sadness, and sickness this year? Yes. But just like 2020, there will also be joy, times of peace, and rest available.

“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33 English Standard Version

The peace we experience may not always be in the world, but it can be inside us.

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”
John 14:27 English Standard Version

Peace is ours for the taking, but Jesus also clarifies His intentions for the earth. He did not come here to bring peace; He came to be the catalyst.

“Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.”
Matthew 10:34 English Standard Version

As we go into 2021, maybe surrendering our lives on the altar and asking Him to shape us is a good approach, becoming clay in His hands so we can become more like Jesus, not looking at all the distractions the world has to offer but instead becoming laser-focused on the One who can bring true life and peace.

“If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it.”
Matthew 10:39 New Living Translation

Lose your life this year, not in the way the world fears but in the abandonment of what God is asking. Renew your vows to God this year. Surrender your heart to Him in a new way. He has great things waiting for us, better then what the world can offer. His love, peace, joy, patience, and kindness, are waiting to envelop us.
