Mile Markers

Marking Our Life’s Journey with Jesus

Our life is a journey with Jesus on which there are mile markers.

There are events in our lives that mark where we are on this journey with Jesus. Some of those events are filled with joy and others with sorrow, but each one maps our journey.

Mile markers tell us where we have been with Jesus. Revisiting pictures from the past will often remind us of those significant events. Our first car. Our first job. Our first date.

Mile markers even point us to our future with Jesus as we see them off in the distance; a child heading to college, retirement, even death itself.

Jesus is with us, has been with us, and will be with us on this journey we call life.

The greatest mile marker waiting for those of us travelling with Jesus is the final marker that God has promised at the end of the journey. That marker points us to the promise of the resurrection of the dead, a new heaven and a new earth.

Through this journey with Jesus we hear words from the author of Hebrews;

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”
Hebrews 13:8 English Standard Version

Today might be a good day to stop and look at the mile marker that indicates where you are now so that you don’t forget the present. Maybe your marker is this COVID-19 situation. Maybe it’s looking for work. Maybe it’s the birth of a child. Then go back to those significant mile markers of the past and remember the mercy of God in Christ; his forgiveness, love, and compassion. Then look with the eyes of faith at that marker yet to come, the end of the journey when Christ returns in the fullness of his glory.

It’s good to pay attention to life’s mile markers. They remind us that we are making this journey with Jesus, the One who walks with us, behind us, and is still in front of us.
