“The Lord your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be His people, His treasured possession.”
Deuteronomy 7:6
“Wo5-17w, not everybody has such a colorful chicken in their kitchen”, I commented to my friend Langdon when I saw the unique statue on a visit. “Yes”, said Langdon, “I know it is rather odd, but my wife loves it.”
Not everyone would appreciate the unique decoration, but to at least one person it was a treasured possession. Perhaps that is the way that the Lord thinks about you and me. Unique, odd, perhaps not wanted by most people, but to the Lord, a treasured possession.
When the Lord chose His people Israel as His possession, they were not numerous, nor wise, nor powerful, but God loved them and declared Israel His treasured people. And that is how God chose you. You were not so powerful, nor wise, nor even that righteous, but out of His great love, His amazing grace, He chose you. He chose you out of all people to be loved, cherished, saved.
He sent His own Son just for you, to pray for you, to care for you, to save you. He could have chosen someone else, but in His love He wanted you. Perhaps others may not appreciate you very much. Perhaps others may not value you, nor remember you, nor even notice you.
But our Lord Jesus does. He chose you before the beginning of time to be His treasure, His cherished possession. And He watches over you and knows all about you and never takes His eyes from watching over your face. You are His, His beloved child. And nothing was more valuable nor is more important to God than saving you.
You are His great treasure!
