“In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord….”
Isaiah 40:3b English Standard Version
Preparation time…. getting ready for the big event… Lights up, tree up, cards sent, cookies made, gifts purchased and wrapped, stockings hung by the chimney with care. “Yep, looks like we are all ready for Christmas!”
But are you, really? Are the parties and the decorations and the cards and the lights and the food and the gifts what it really takes to get ready for Christmas?
Do any of these preparations prepare you for the coming of the Lord Jesus? I hope that these preparations do remind you of the really big event, the coming of the Lord. But if all these other preparations have caused you to forget what is really important, here is a big reminder.
CHRISTMAS IS ABOUT JESUS!
That’s right, Christmas is all about the coming of the Lord Jesus. So how do we prepare for His coming?
Here are a few suggestions: Stop, read Isaiah 40 and Luke 2, pray for Jesus to come to you, and invite Him to come every day to speak to you and minister to you.
Jesus came to save you from your sins, to comfort you, to bring you peace, to remind you that you are a child of God. And this whole preparation time is designed not to exhaust you, but to bring you joy and good news.
Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for coming for me to save me from my sins and make me a child of God. Prepare me continually to receive you and send your Holy Spirit to make me faithful unto you. Come, Lord Jesus, come. Amen.
