“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
1 Corinthians10:31 New International Version (NIV)
Recently, I spoke with a friend about choral singing. I told him about the weekly rehearsals, along with the variety of music and venues. When I mentioned that I sing in three choirs, he asked, “Do you get paid for any of this?” I replied, “No, and for two of the ensembles I have to purchase my music and attire.” He asked why I was willing to spend that much time volunteering, and I explained how making music with other singers in church and for the community can help lift the spirits of others.
Many of us have a calling that we are passionate about doing. We are excited to share what we love doing with others. Sometimes our vocations can be that call, and other times we give of ourselves without a tangible reward.
Periodically, it’s good to reflect on that “why” and check in with our call.
We are all members of one body of Christ, members of one global family. and each of us has been gifted with unique talents to share with our neighbors. The love of Christ is made manifest when we serve one another.
We need each other to make the world a better place.
“But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.“
Philippians 3:13b-14 NIV
God fills our hearts with joy when we find a place to share our gifts in service to him.
“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body
you were called to peace. And be thankful.”
Colossians 3:15 NIV
Go in peace, Serve the Lord. Thanks be to God!
