The Mystery of the Growing Seed

“Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how.”
Mark 4:27 New International Version

We planted our garden just a couple of days ago.  Here is a picture of Jim, carefully putting out string to mark where we will plant our rows of seeds.

The seeds are tiny, just a handful of small organic capsules which we drop into the dirt and cover, placing them into God’s care and trusting in His miracle of life.  I really don’t understand all the organic chemistry that goes into a seed growing and pushing its way out of the soil, putting out leaves and growing vegetables.  I trust that this growth happens by God’s care and so I plant.

Planting the Word of God into people’s lives is much the same.  You prepare the soil through loving relationship,  you plant the Word of God in them through telling the story of God’s love for them in Jesus Christ, and you wait and encourage them as that Word planted in their heart grows.  Sometimes, like in a garden, you must reseed several times because the Word does not take root.

But always we trust in the miracle of the Life of Jesus Christ in God’s Word, that Life that saves you from sin and gives you eternal life.  That word was planted and replanted in my life many times and now I see the miracle of it bearing fruit and reproducing in others’ lives.

If you are hearing this Word of God in your life, may it grow and thrive and bear much fruit.  If you are faithfully planting the Word in someone else’s life, may God give you faith that His miracle will happen, and the Word will grow and bear fruit.

Trust in the Living Word of God, it will bring about the mystery of salvation!
