Too Heavy to Lift Alone

“The Lord helps the fallen and lifts those bent beneath their loads.”
Psalm 145:14 New Living Translation

Have you ever lifted too heavy a load, maybe to save time or steps, and then felt a twinge or a sharp pain in your back? Maybe you pulled a muscle, or maybe it was a more serious injury. But the pain persisted for a time, and you regretted having lifted it incorrectly or having carried too much of the weight at once.

God knows that our troubles can weigh us down, even paralyze us emotionally. Instead of looking to Christ for His strength and His purpose for us, we turn inward and try to handle life’s burdens on our own, ignoring the anxiety and fear that gnaw at us a little more each day.

Even when we feel life is going well, the worries and cares of this world subtly creep into our minds and take up a lot of valuable space before we even realize it. Sometimes we carry the wrong loads in our lives—guilt, worry, stress, anxiety. Our heavenly perspective becomes distorted and our motivation wanes, leading to hopelessness. We allow our misery to overwhelm us, rather than surrendering it to a God who loves us deeply and longs for us to trust Him with all our cares.

Jesus knew about the weariness of life. He asked all those to come to Him to find rest when life’s burdens were too much to bear. Go to Him with yours. You will find a rest that is beyond imagination. His burden is indeed light.

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
Matthew 11: 28,30 New Living Translation
