“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.
Revelation 22:13 English Standard Version (ESV)

Last weekend, my husband and I hied away to the San Juan Mountains in southwest Colorado. We rode the Durango-Silverton narrow gauge train through mountains and the canyons on one day, and on the drive home we traveled along the Million Dollar Highway between Silverton and Ouray. Every twist and turn along the tracks and the highway revealed a new vista, each seeming more breathtaking than the last.

We traveled for miles, and I can’t remember how many times we said, “Oh, wow!” to each other.

It begs the question: where does a mountain range begin? Where does it end?

We know where the headwaters of the Mississippi River are located, but where do mountain ranges begin?

Yet, something as massive and magnificent as the San Juan Mountains pales to the blue sky above it. Where does the sky begin and end?

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.
John 1:1-3 ESV

Jesus, our Lord and Savior, seated at the right hand of God, one with God and the Holy Spirit, is even more unending than that!

His death and resurrection frees us from the grip of sin in our lives. Walking with him in the light of forgiveness makes every day new. We can live with a quiet (or not-so-quiet) confidence that, one day, we will be in unending life with him in Heaven, singing “You are holy!”

Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory above the heavens.
Out of the mouth of babies and infants,
you have established strength because of your foes,
to still the enemy and the avenger.

Psalm 8:1-2 ESV
